Motorhome Medical

If you passed your driving test before 1997 you automatically obtained this C1 licence through ‘grandfather rights’, but a medical for just £55 is required when you turn 70 in order for you to retain C1 entitlements for another 3 years.

Many drivers over the age of 70 may consider surrendering their C1 licence due to the misconception that the renewal process is complex and costly. However, D4Drivers offers a simple solution by arranging a medical assessment conducted by a GMC registered doctor at any of our 100+ clinic locations, for only £55. This will allow you to continue enjoying driving for another three years.

If you obtained your driving licence after January 1997, you will need a D4 medical to apply for a C1 provisional licence. Subsequently, you will need to train and pass the test to drive C1 vehicles if your motorhome is over 3.5 tonnes. This is because a C1 licence is not automatically granted to drivers who passed their test after 1996.

Your Licence Explained

If you obtained your driving licence prior to 1st January 1997, you are permitted to operate the following vehicles:

Category B – vehicles weighing up to 3,500kg, towing a trailer with a Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) of up to 750kg.
Category B+E – same as above but with a trailer over 750kg.
Category C1 – vehicles weighing between 3,500kg and 7,500kg, towing a trailer with a MAM of up to 750kg.
Category C1E(107) – vehicles weighing between 3,500kg and 7,500kg, towing a trailer over 750kg. (107: Total weight must not exceed 8,250kg MAM).
Categories C1 and C1E fall under grandfather rights and must be renewed at the age of 70 and every 3 years thereafter.

What’s Involved In The D4 Medical?

For just £55, our doctor will conduct a D4 medical examination, which includes an eyesight test using a Snellen chart, blood pressure checks to ensure that your blood pressure meets the DVLA’s criteria, and a medical history questionnaire.

Additionally, our medical assessment checks for other standards that drivers of motorhomes and similar-sized vehicles must meet. Our doctor will assist you in completing the questionnaire, which covers various health and medical issues such as epilepsy, seizures, diabetes, and other medical conditions that could impair your ability to operate a motorhome or any other vehicle.

Based on the information you provide regarding your medical history, medications, and the findings of your examination, our doctor will complete your D4 form. The duration of the HGV medical assessment usually takes between 10 to 20 minutes, depending on your health and medical history.

By choosing D4Drivers for your motorhome medical, you can benefit from:
